Facial Fillers Pre-Treatment Instructions
- If you have a special event or vacation coming up, please keep in mind that you may want to schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance.
- Clients should not schedule any vaccination or invasive procedures for 2 weeks before or after treatment with Dermal Fillers. These include but are not limited to:
- COVID vaccine or Flu Vaccine
- Dental cleaning or dental work
- Lesion excision or biopsy
- Surgery of any kind
- Internal device placement
- Tattoo or permanent makeup
- History of surgical face lift of any kind will lead to denial of treatment of dermal fillers (RESTYLANE® LYFT and VOLUMA® XC) to the midface or cheek region.
- It is recommended to discontinue the use of Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising or bleeding. Please consult with your primary physician prior to discontinuing any medications.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. These items may contribute to increased swelling or irritation.
- If you have a history of cold sores with outbreaks occurring more than 4 times a year, it is recommended that you are pretreated with medication prior to the injection treatments around or near the oral area. The medication will need to be initiated 3 days prior to your treatment visit. Please consult with your primary care physician in obtaining the medication.
- If you develop a cold/flu, cold sore, blemish, or rash, etc. in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, we recommend that you please reschedule your appointment until it resolves.
- It is recommended to discontinue Retin-A 2-3 days before treatment to avoid any increased redness and irritation.
- It is recommended that you wait at least 2 weeks to have dermal filler treatments performed if you have previously had cosmetic treatments with laser, ultrasound, peels, facials or micro- dermabrasion.
Facial Fillers Post-Treatment Instructions
For best results:
- Sleep on your back and avoid activities where pressure is put on your face (ex: facials and massages) for 48hrs
- Stay hydrated
- Use SPF 30+ with Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide daily
- Follow a good skin care regimen
For the Next 24 hours AVOID:
- Straining, heavy lifting, vigorous exercise
- Touching, or rubbing the treated areas
- Avoid submerging head under water after midface treatment
For the next 2 days AVOID:
- Air travel
- If your skin is irritated after treatment, wait until it returns to normal to resume Retin-A use.
- Substances that thin your blood and cause bruising
- Advil (ibuprofen), Aspirin, excessive alcohol, caffeine, spicy, high-sodium or high sugar foods
- Applying makeup or use of Retin-A or similar products that could cause skin irritation
Some treatments may be performed on the same day. Once complete, AVOID any additional procedures to the treatment area (including cosmetic treatments) for 2 weeks.
For the next 2 weeks AVOID:
- Avoid dental cleaning, dental work, vaccinations, invasive procedures, tattoos or permanent makeup
- After treatment redness, swelling, bruising and tenderness in the treatment area is normal.
- Swelling and bruising may persist for up to 2 weeks
- Take Tylenol (acetaminophen) as needed for pain
- You may apply ice lightly to the treatment area for comfort as needed. Alternate ice 20 min on 20 min off and do not apply ice directly to skin
- If symptoms worsen or persist for more than 2 weeks, call the clinic to speak with a medical professional
- If you are experiencing symptoms other than the ones listed above including a sudden increase in pain, formation of blisters, significant lumps, numbness, or loss of pigment to the skin call the clinic immediately to speak with a medical professional. If you experience any changes in vision or vision loss, go immediately to the nearest Emergency Department.
